How does Safe & Sober Driver work?
‘Safe & Sober Driver’ is an online therapy programme that aims to help individuals who have less than three EBA (driving with excess breath/blood alcohol) and/or drug driving convictions.
This is a 20 hour course for people who have been charged with drink/drug driving and runs over six weeks and 11 sessions (days). To be eligible for this programme a person must:
- Have less than three prior EBA convictions (can be facing the third)
- Typically live outside the Auckland region and unable to attend our in-person group. If you’re outside of Auckland we may be able to waive the ‘less than three prior EBAs criteria’ depending on your circumstances
- Be able to access an appropriate device (no mobile phones please) and have reliable internet access
- Join in from a quiet space where there are no interruptions
The group is capped in numbers – it has a maximum of 12 people and a minimum of six. There is a cost to participate depending on whether you need a court report in addition or are just wanting to attend group for a certificate of completion.
The course covers decision making, planning, alcohol and drug awareness, communication, coping skills, and many other relevant topics. Upon completion you will receive a certificate of attendance plus an AOD report (if required).
