Ready for the Road

Ready for the Road is designed specifically for rangatahi who want to develop responsible driving habits before sitting for their licence.

How does Ready for the Road work?

The Ready for the Road responsible driver programme is a 20-hour group for young people aged between 16-18 years. Ready for the Road supports rangatahi to:

  • make changes so that they can become safe and responsible drivers
  • deal with environmental triggers
  • learn better ways to cope with stress
  • find the right support
  • pass their learners licence test at the end of the programme

Over 90 percent of participants have successfully gained their learners permit after completing this programme.

Ready for the Road happens in four sessions over a two week period – the learners licence test is taken on the final day. This programme is funded by Auckland Transport and supported by the police, who play a key role in mentoring rangatahi.
