Aurora Rangatahi is a free programme that ignites the potential of Māori and Pasifika young people by fostering leadership, self-awareness, and decision-making. How does Aurora Rangatahi work?
Aurora Rangatahi is a programme for young Māori and Pasifika people (aged between 16-24 years) that is designed to build well-rounded, confident, and responsible individuals. The group is run for two hours over a 10-week period.
Through interactive workshops, mentorship, and peer support networks, Aurora Rangatahi equips young leaders with the tools to navigate challenges, make healthy life choices, and spearhead positive transformations.
Aurora Rangatahi creates a safe space where young people can explore their strengths, overcome obstacles, and illuminate pathways for their future and those around them by focusing on self-development, resilience, and collective impact.
This programme helps participants to develop emotional resilience and self-esteem, psychological coping and decision-making skills, planning and goal setting, communication, identity, and to connect with others as a positive peer group.
An important part of the Aurora Rangatahi programme is connecting to role models including Semisi Paea from Moana Pasifika and Timani Ngungutau Cruiserweight boxer amongst others. It culminates in a graduation ceremony recognising participants growth and achievements.
The group will has the opportunity to spend time in whakawhanaungatanga and creating experiences to promote self-development and growth. This session ends with a sense of self-efficacy and empowerment.

Thanks to the SkyCity Auckland Community Trust, Aurora Rangatahi is free, but there are some eligibility requirements and places in the programme are limited.
Eligibility requirements
Participants must:
- Be aged between 16 – 24 years
- Be of Māori or Pasifika
- Be able to attend every session in-person
- Live in the Auckland region
